BOGOYAVLENIE - Holy Theophany (Epiphany) of Our Lord 

It is celebrated on the 6 th of January and is the third of the most important Christian celebrations of the year. According to the Bible's legends on that very day Jesus Christ was baptized in the waters of Jordan river by Johan the Baptist. Then the skies opens and the holy ghost appears and steps on Jesus Christ's shoulder as a dove . A voice out of the sky speaks : “This is my beloved son and he has my grace.” From here comes the name of the day-“Theophany”, which means "God to us" shows himself. The celebration has many names in the different places of the country - Krastovden, Voditsi, Vodokrashti etc. People believe that the night before Bogoyavlenie, the sky opens and who sees it, his wish will come true. It is also believed that the water stops flowing on that day,

clears, then gains a big power. After the water sanctification in the church, the priest throws The Holly Cross into flowing waters. Then young men jump into the water and try to take the cross out of the water. The man who takes out the cross is considered to have health and luck all year long. Sick and ill people go into the water,to be healthy, where the cross was thrown. If the cross freezes, when, it is said that it will be a very good year. At the end of the ceremony the priest sprinkles the people with a branch of basil for health.

БОГОЯВЛЕНИЕ 

Богоявление - Йордановден - е третият по значимост християнски празник през годината. Според библейската легенда на този ден Исус Христос е покръстен във водите на ека Йордан от Йоан Кръстител. В момента на кръщението небето се отваря и Светият дух слиза върху Христос във вид на гълъб, а от небето се разнася глас: "Този е моят възлюбен син, в когото е моето благоволение!" Оттук и названието на празника - Богоявление.

Празникът има различни имена в страната - Кръстовден, Водици, Водокръщи и други.

Според народното поверие през нощта срещу Богоявление в глуха доба небето се отваря и всеки, който го види, ще получи от Бог това, което си пожелае. Вярва се още, че тогава спира водата, пречиства се, след което придобива голяма сила. Затова денят е известен още като Водици и

Водокръщи. За здраве всички участват в освещаването на водата, когато след празнична черковна служба, свещеникът хвърля Светия кръст във водата. Млади мъже се хвърлят въпреки студа и ниската температура и изваждат кръста от водата. Който го извади бива честит и здрав през цялата година. Болни се къпят във водата, където е хвърлен кръстът. Ако хвърленият във водата кръст замръзне, предвещава здраве и голям берекет. Ако пък времето е студено и сухо, се приема като знак за плодородна и добра година. Накрая - с к
